Disney's has a five tier system for all of the resorts on property. It starts with the campgrounds, then value resorts, moderate resorts, deluxe resorts, and finally the top being deluxe villa resorts.
The French Quarter is one of Disney's moderate resorts, it has a sister resort called Port Orleans: Riverside. French Quarter & Riverside are both walking distance from each other & are a boat ride away from Disney Springs. They are both located in the Disney Springs Area, so that mean they are closer to Disney Springs than to the parks... so expect a longer bus ride to the parks. The mode of transportation to and from the resort once you are there is limited. You can take Disney busses to any of the parks & to Disney Springs, or you can opt to take a boat to Disney Springs.
I have stayed at Port Orleans: French Quarter twice, and I loved both stays! French Quarter is themed after New Orleans & Mardi Gras. So it is all bright colors, beautiful wrought iron fencing, and sleepy streets begging to be strolled down. Disney really does transport you with this resort! Now if you're thinking, Princess Tiana is from Louisiana! Yes, she is & there are small touches of her throughout the resort. If you're looking for big Disney Princess touches then I recommend a stay at Port Orleans: Riverside, there they have special royal guest rooms.

French Quarter is actually one of the smallest resorts on property & it is also one of the most popular for that reason. I have stayed at many Disney resorts & I have to say the French Quarter was the least hectic of them all.
The French Quarter's pool, also known as Doubloon Lagoon, is based off of a sea monster lovingly named Scales. Scales can be seen through out the whole pool area, with his head becoming a pool slide!
If you are more of a relax in a jacuzzi after a long park day, well you are in luck. French Quarter has one, it is located across from the kids play area.
Mardi Grogs, the pool bar, serves up drinks like its Mardi Gras! They have non-alcoholic options, cocktails, frozen cocktails, plus beer and wine. Another thing about the French Quarter that has been there since I was a kid. The gator band! These guys are at the entry way to the pool & are preforming under a shell.
Now lets' talk food. The French Quarter only has a quick service restaurant, Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory and Scat Cat's lounge & cafe.
Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory is based off of a ware house where they would create Mardi Gras floats. It's named Sassagoula because of the river that runs next to the resort. This quick service has everything that you might want. A decent selection of food, including cajun items if that's what you're feeling, they also have classic American fare as well.
Scat Cat's is known for their beignets. Yes, the infamous french quarter beignets are from there. Scat Cat's used to be the only place in Walt Disney World where you could get beignets, but now with the re-theme of Splash Mountain into Tiana's Bayou Adventure, you can get beignets in Magic Kingdom.
If you want classic beignets, Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory sells them as well.
The rooms at French Quarter are pretty basic, they do have a small Mardi Gras vibe to them with curtains with a bead design, dark wood touches, and art. The rooms are smaller than others, but it's not that noticeable until you have suitcases sprawled on the floor. If you're like me and don't spend a lot of time in your room but rather be out in a park, exploring another resort, or shopping at Disney Springs, then this room does its job. The resort is quieter, so if you are a light sleeper then this resort would be one to consider.
If you love Port Orleans: French Quarter and consider it your home resort, let me know what you love about it! If you're considering a stay here, I hope this helps!
